Isaiah 1:19 - "If you are willing and obedient..."
"Your majesty" said Prior Richard, "Do you understand that the pledge here is one of obedience? That will be hard because you have been a king."
"I understand" said Henry. "The rest of my life I will be obedient to you, as Christ leads you."
"Then I will tell you what to do," said Prior Richard. "Go back to your throne and serve faithfully in the place where God has put you."
When King Henry died, a statement was written: "The king learned to rule by being obedient." (Source: Leadership Magazine, Fall 1985).
When we are obedient, we show God that we love him and trust in him. We might be tempted to grow bitter or discontent with God's plan for our lives, but we need to trust him because God truly wants what is best for us. To obey God means to relinquish what we want and to choose to do what God asks. God requires us to be obedient as his followers.
